Regional Reflections - Stefan Krüger

Video conferencing has proved itself an invaluable tool in these times of Covid-19. Lockdown and the sanctions against visiting customer and partner premises in Austria, Switzerland and Italy meant business had to take to online video communications platforms to have virtual face-to-face interaction, and it worked fantastically. For me personally, webinars and online training became a huge part of my business life and Germany was at the forefront. I have my own studio in Mönchengladbach, fully equipped for video recording and so presenting on camera comes naturally to me. It’ll never replace a personal appointment, but it’s much better than a phone call for the ability to see and interpret facial expressions and gestures of the person or people you’re in the ‘meeting’ with. Someone can raise a virtual hand to have their say so there’s no talking over each other. When it comes to audio, this is arguably more important than video quality. We can handle a fuzzy image but if we can’t hear what someone’s saying clearly and uninterrupted then we naturally become frustrated. That's why it’s important to choose the right microphone for online meetings and events. For a webinar, for example, in my opinion, it makes sense to use a Lavalier microphone (body clip mic), because the speech transmission is clear, omnidirectional and broadcast-quality. In a video conference call from the home office it’s usually sufficient to use a headset. If a video conference is held from a conference room with multiple participants, it’s essential to ensure that the video conference system is designed to capture and follow the voices of all participants visually and audio perfectly. For this reason, now businesses are gradually bringing staff back into offices, we’ve seen an increased demand for our floor-to-wall video conferencing solution, the VCM580, which fits perfectly into the environment of a conference room and has all the hardware compatibility and accessory options that a fully coordinated video conferencing solution requires.
