Regional Reflections - Ella Hirsch

The outbreak of Coronavirus represents the biggest turning point in the last few decades. Almost overnight, the event industry was suppressed with the future of events and trade fairs vague and unsettled as organisers were forced to either cancel or postpone. Rental, staging and event integrators in Germany, and across the globe, have been severely affected. At Peerless-AV we’re positive that the industry will survive this. We supported the #nightoflight2020 initiative in June in which the affected organisations throughout Germany, Switzerland and The Netherlands drew attention to their situation by lighting up venues in red to encourage support from the federal government. We’ve now seen this followed by the UK and US with the #WeMakeEvents ‘Red Alert’ campaign. As an industry, we will come through this; live events and the arts will come back but it may be a slow, scenic route to how things were before. We’re in a position to drive new tech development and innovation forward to fill the events void. We are already seeing the use of digital signage displays and kiosks in hospitality and attractions to communicate admission control procedures. As sports venues gradually open up their doors to crowds they’ll need such solutions in place to share the latest critical updates, alerts and social distancing procedures. Similarly, the growth of drive-in cinemas, where people can watch movies in the safety of their own car, means a need for more LED screens and transportable digital information points. We’re all watching with bated breath and here at Peerless-AV business is very much focused on working with partners and customers to keep the industry alive and kicking.
