International Women's Day 2022

Today on International Women's Day, we asked some of the team which women inspire them and why:

    

Ella Hirsch

Woman who inspires you: Melinda von Horvath. My former boss and colleague who unfortunately passed away too early. Melinda was an extraordinary character. Strict and dominant, but also incredibly warm and emphatic. I learned a lot from her about what it means to motivate, inspire and lead.

Stefan Kruger

Woman who inspires you: Julia Leeb. As a photographer, I follow her photo and video work and admire her courage to go to crisis areas, risking her own life, to point out the consequences of war for women who would otherwise not be heard.

Justin Joy

Woman who inspires you: Melinda Von Hovarth. When I first met Melinda she seemed so confident in her own abilities; she was a woman that knew exactly what she wanted and she got it done. Her assertiveness and determination was good for the company and us as a sales team. She was always liked and remembered by anyone she met, and customers in the Middle East held her in very high regard. When it came to business, she was proud, positive and driven but also empathetic with great judgement in any situation. Lastly, she was my Sensei and she called me her young Jedi. She was an inspirational woman and we celebrate her today on IWD.

Beky Cann

Woman who inspires you: My sister, Keturah Hughes. As well as loving her for being my sister, Turah is a real inspiration to me, always has been, but even more so for the work she has been doing for the animals of Bali over the last 12-13 years. After moving there in 2009 to start an Osteopath practice, she has gradually rescued her animals, through cruelty, injury or abandonment, and now cares for approximately 30 dogs and 20 cats. Most of them live at her house and she also cares for many on the street. She pours her heart, soul and earnings into getting the animals healthy and taking care of them day to day so that they might one day be rehomed to a loving family. To assist with the costs, time and energy needed to care for such a vast number of animals, she has set up a website and team of likeminded people to help the animals of Bali with food and medication. Dog walk tours are arranged and volunteers welcomed. Most importantly, they are looking for adopters and sponsors, from anywhere in the world, that can help contribute to creating a better life for the animals. Turah is a strong, inspirational female with the biggest, kindest heart and an entrepreneurial spirit that fills me with pride and admiration. Gwen Villette

Woman who inspires you: Simone Veil. A 16 years old Jewish girl deported during war who became a famous politician. She fought against discrimination against women. She is the one who had the law voted for the right to abortion. Later she became the first woman President of the European Parliament. Simone Veil is an example for all of us. We have to stay strong and fight for our rights, our beliefs despite dangerous or difficult times.

Woman who inspires you: Karen Brady inspires me for holding two very senior positions in an extremely male dominated industry as well as ‘loving her work’ on the apprentice!

Woman who inspires you: Greta Thunberg. it's inspirational that someone so young has had such a large worldwide impact on an important social issue.
