Today I’d like to talk about Digital Out of Home and the developments we’re seeing here in Germany. DOOH is the strongest growing area of the Digital Signage space and there is a lot of potential for outdoor advertising, especially in the major commercial centres and big cities looking to replace static, slow to update signage in bus stops, roadside, retail centres, train stations, tourism areas, drive thrus, and more. It’s important to state that Germany is perhaps more conservative than other European regions and some of the challenges for DOOH that System Integrators face not only maximising revenue and ROI but all these factors come into play; weather and climate changes, digital advertising needs to be environmentally sustainable, as well as revenue driving,  accurate and visually appealing, and there are strict laws from the government concerning light pollution and installations in high streets and outlet villages.  

COVID-19 has also brought its own challenges and organisations are adapting to new ways of working, selling, advertising, communicating…Retailers are launching future convenience store concepts that are 24/7 unmanned digital pop up stores, at train stations for example, where customers enter and shop using a dedicated App. Digital Signage is needed for these stores to control customer entry and share information and offers.
